Should Dealers be allowed in disco3.co.uk?

I do seem to have poked a stick into a wasps nest by being here.

There are comments that dealers should not be allowed on this site, that they are hiding behind screen names and not being upfront about who they are, what they do and why?

I am not hiding. Look at my screen name.

I deeply enjoy what I do, I am proud to be working for Land Rover. I have driven and owned Land Rovers for over 15 years. My family own Land Rovers, young & old.

I am here to learn from owners, I will also gladly help anyone that wants advice on specifications (with the changes for 2007 model).
I will not assist in dealer or manufacturer bashing, the never ending expectation of more & more discounts or any technical matters (I hold no technical qualifications - that is why there are technicians in this world).

I have not joined into this forum to sell more cars.

But think of this;

Would you rather deal with someone with a passion for what they do, the brand they sell and willing to spend time on a forum engaging in witty banter with not just my own customers but people who a similarly passionate about the cars - or a shark in a suit?

I think I have said enough. If you do not want my participation in these forums I will ask the administrators of this site to remove my login. I will then return to the axis of evil and prepare to take over the world. Twisted Evil

Well, as the administrator I feel I should say something Smile

In my eyes, dealers are very welcome to participate on DISCO3 on any level provided it is non commercial - and so I've voted yes Wink

DISCO3 is a large information sharing resource, and if dealers can help by providing information and can benefit from the information shared about problems with the vehicle or the sales/aftersales process then that is completely within the spirit of the site.

What would not be in the spirit is registering on here and exploiting the free and open nature of the site for a commercial benefit - LR Dealer, I know this doesn't apply to you Wink

As Martin says, anyone is welcome to contribute - and I would support and defend that... the only thing that would pi$$ me off is if it became a battleground between competing dealers or posts developed into thinly disguised sales pitches Evil or Very Mad
hopefully we can all play nicely together and broaden the understanding of the needs of owners and sellers alike Very Happy

It has to be a good thing, but we surely need them to be 'in the open' like you LrDealer.
A few of us have been told that our dealers 'look on here often'.
That is a start but let's try and 'work' together.

I've got no problem with dealers who let us know they are a dealer. As long as we know who we are corresponding with, we can make an informed decision about the information they provide.

Dealers who pretend to be otherwise are a problem, but seeing as we don't know who they are anyway, what can we do? Rolling Eyes

I'm voting yes.

Whilst I agree TFC and in principal I have no objections to any honest dealer being represented here, (to improve the quality of the D3 and the owning experience), I "worry" that what seemed to be an impartial forum, is starting to lean towards the manufacturer and lose it's impartiality.
Sad
I am not saying that every dealer registered will automatically argue "black is white" when responding to a negative thread, but it was always pleasant to find a useful bit of independent information or a tip or a trick that like minded individuals have posted for the benefit of all.
I suspect that when a dealer posts - it may not be with the benefit of all in mind. Or am I just too cynical? Wink

Anyway that's my two'penneth, I will be voting Yes, as I still believe in the agency of individuals, unlike this current government, but that's another thread entirely....

I'm not quite sure how the presence of a few people employed by Land Rover dealers means that the site as a whole loses its impartiality.

It's not as if LR have any control over content on here Confused

As I said above, the presence of dealership staff should help increase the breadth of knowledge, experience and information which is available on DISCO3.

Myself and the moderators work to control commercial posting, it is simply prohibited without financially supporting the site's running costs.

It is fairly obvious that a number of members do not trust dealers, I would hope that knowledgable and friendly participation by dealer staff will help to change this image. In my view DISCO3 is only bettered by contributions from all people with experience of the D3 - whether that's as an owner, mechanic, dealership manager, engineer or non-owning enthusiast (like myself).

Why not ?

If it is clear and obvious !

Maybe there should be something close to the name of the poster that will tell of an official connection to L.R like, for instance, an L.R badge or something like that...

But I am not holding my breath waiting for MY dealership to show up online ! Wink They might not even speak English ! Laughing

I have voted yes Wink

I think LR Dealer and I got off on the wrong foot but I hope he understands that some of his early posts did have a commercial angle to them and as a regular contributer, of nonsense or otherwise, there was an element of site protectionism in my responses.

I welcome dealers to the site providing that they are open about their general identity ....and are prepared to take the rough with the smooth in terms of some members views about their standards of service. ......and I would like to see some advice that will assist members who are having persistent problems (whether via post or PM).

And as TFC says no brawling with other dealers ........or we'll have to send the boys around Laughing

I would also say that it is up to the individual whether they want to make it known they are a dealer or are involved with Land Rover.

I'm voting yes.

No problem, if they are on here anyway it would be better to know. What I'd hope not to see is a "He said this, she said that" slagging between a member & dealer, we need that restricted to just between member & member!!! Wink
