I think the best way to do things is to have a second set of wheels for the ruffty stuff then you don't end up scratching up your road rims. 17" rims give you a bigger choice of tires and the tires are much cheaper than 19's if you do happen to loose one.
The Kumho 71s on mine were under £100 per corner fitted and the rims came from fleabay with Wranglers on for £82 the set of 4.... Wink

You won't get mistaken for a hair dresser with these things on, (NeilD would) the instuctors at LRE Bala were impressed... Thumbs Up

Just replaced this rear MTR on my car today as it has a puncture. It will go on a spare wheel. They were fitted from new and have now done about 43000 over 22months. The new one has 10mm tread and the ones on the car are at 6-7mm on rear and 5-6mm on front. Out of interest im now going to post a new question about my tyre monitor equipment and how it is suppost to work in the tech section?

Obviously noisier than my Wranglers, around town I don't really notice a difference, on the motorway it sounds a bit like a transmission whine but not what I could consider bad, turn the radio a couple of notches and you don't notice it Exclamation
Straight-line stability on the motorway is very good as is grip on the wet,the time I notice them most is just as I'm coming to a halt you seem to feel the blocks through the brake pedal just before you stop. haven't had to do a real emergency stop on them but I would imagine it wouldn't be as good as a road tyre.
They KL71s conform to the European S noise rating but the Maxxis Bighorns don't at present that's why are in short supply, speak to Andy at AJS if you want more info on the tyres or check out Camskill.
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m26b0s273p12012

A word of warning, if you have a later model these tyres may catch they are fractionally bigger than the standard rubber Exclamation

But don't they look... 8)

Hi Guys,

I have to admit that i've been looking to replace my standard se 18" alloys for the last two months... Question Then by chance on ebay saw a set of new hse 19" alloys with goodyear mtr's on at the right price Idea That was it, 'BUY THEM NOW' before i change my mind... again Embarassed
I have to say they are now on and look fantastic (obviously not everyone's taste), slight increase in road noise but no noticable drop in mpg..yet.

Steve D,

I have to admit i'm not keen on ebay but on this occasion they appeared on the Friday night, i decided to be cheeky and messaged him a.s.a.p to ask if he would accept an offer of cash with collection Saturday morning and bob's your uncle Laughing . I have to admit i was bl**dy lucky, just a case of 'if you don't ask someone else will'

Have a look at this link, it takes you to D3 specific items.

Tyres for D4

Just about to order a new D4 and struggling with whether to go for the 3 litre or 2.7. Here in Oz the 3 litre comes with R19s and the 2.7 with R18s. There is not much choice in either range but can anyone tell me if the 2.7 D4 can be fitted with 17 inch rims, allowing me to get access to the R17 tyre range which is more extensive? Any advice appreciated...looking forward to delivery in early 2010 and plan some outback trips which involve a lot of sand and dirt roads with sharp rocks (i.e. potential sidewall problems and staking). I also do beach driving and find the all terrain R16s fitted to my current 300 Tdi Discovery (1998) quite good for this. Thumbs Up

I think 2.7 D4 has same brakes as 2.7 D3 so 17 rims should fit
