Before I subscribed to the Mailing Preference Service, I used to spend a happy ten minutes every morning redistributing junk mail into the various reply paid envelopes I received each day and returning them. Splendidly petty and great fun.

Does anyone know of a website that has a list of all current car makes and models in the UK with the relevant CO2 emissions data?

I would love to see exactly where the 4x4s are in this table.

Thanks for that, I have been to this site before but it will only give the data for one car at a time so collating a full list is pretty tedious.

I was hoping for a simple list that showed the worst polluters.

And for the more knowledgeable people on this site - how closely related are fuel consumption and CO2 emissions? Are the 12mpg cars pumping out more CO2 than my D3 that is getting 33mpg?

Downloadable lists are available in various formats on this page.

Hint - download the Excel version, hide all the columns after 'F' except column 'M' and then sort the data by column 'M' descending and you've got what you want (or PM me with an e-mail address and I'll send it to you). I've combined the two sheets and the Disco 3 is a surprisingly long way down the list - V8 is 68th; 2.7V6 Auto is 280th and 2.7V6 Man is 561st! Lamborghini anyone?

It's a shame that there isn't a column showing number of seats. It would then be easy to do a CO2-per-seat calculation which, I'm sure would make very interesting reading...

Rather than look for some uber-performance cars I thought I would look at a typical cross-section of non 4x4 school-run cars, some repmobiles and a couple of taxis....

VW Sharan 1.8T tiptronic 259g/km
Renault Espace 2.0 16v Auto 255g/km
Audi A4 Avant 3.2SE Quattro Man6 259g/km
Volvo V70 various from 214g/km - 241g/km
Metrocab 2.4 auto 284g/km
LTI TXII 2.4 auto 243g/km
Citroen C5 2.0 man 190g/km
Mondeo 2.0 man Estate 194g/km
BMW 320si Man 214g/km
Saab 9-5 2.3TS 4dr 221g/km
Disco3 2.7TDV6 man 249g/km

Sorry it's in no particular order, trying to conserve energy (be lazy) but you can see that the Disco is not the worst in this selection.

Thanks Guy for the link, it makes an interesting read.

If only Greenpeace, the BBC and other media would use a factual table like this before directly targetting the 4x4 market for insults!

Interesting to see that the Cayenne is the noisiest car in the table.
