Manual D3 gear stick (stupid) issue
Hello fellow D3ers!
The D3 just found another way to entertain.
Sudden limp mode had clearly become too predictable, so it came up with a clear physical problem.
In the middle of an uphill left turn I found myself with a wobbly stick, unable to shift down to 2nd.
I managed to stop in the side of the road. Inspection of the stick showed it had separated from the assembly that connects it to the gearbox. I understand the two parts are connected and kept in place by a small clip (seeger, or whatever they are called) that had broken leaving me stranded.
An indie mech managed to put the pieces together using some reasonably compatible spare parts he had at the workshop. I managed to drive 700km and feel quite safe the remedy holds but I’d rather substitute it for the original clip.
So here go my questions for you guys.
1. Has anyone had a similar issue?
2. Any idea how to recover the original part number? Guy at LR printed out the drawing and it seems to be 7235B but couldn’t find anything useful on the web. At LR they said they only sell the whole gear stick
(380€+tax) even if the required piece is a 50cents clip!
3. Being new to D3 I wonder how long you can go with these issues before moving on to a Toyota. Any experience? 😂😂 (my wife says I should dump it, but I don’t know why I sort of feel I have to stick to it and fix it)
Thanks and happy new year.

It's rare enough for that clip to fail, but you're in a whole lot of dudu when it does.

Thanks! That’s very helpful.
My mech said I also need 7235B (bottom right in the pic) although I really do not understand what it is and where it fits. He says it’s a block to keep the stick in place.
From the drawing it seems a stand-alone part but nowhere to be found…

Can't say I recognise 7235B, but you can access the linkage from inside the car. The bad news is that the entire centre console along with the dash section containing the head unit, HVAC, etc, etc, has to come out. Then you can remove the box section from the floor pan and access the linkage.
Still, better than dropping the transmission I suppose. Or is it
ps. There's two of those pesky clips required!
You can see one of the clips in place from the image below, the other is obscured but is at the forward end of the same rod!

Ah, I couldn't make out exactly what I was looking at, in that case a suitably sized roll pin should do the job. Pennies!!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thanks! That’s great news.
I’ll check if I can get it in Itayl. Purchasing from the UK has become a nightmare.
@PROFSR my mech managed to slide in a pin he had at the workshop without removing the center console, by working from the hole covered by the gaiter.
@WOJTEK How do you go from the drawing ref number to the part number, may I ask?
Thanks again.

It's actually fairly easy - since both my cars are already eligible for "classic" JLR parts I spend quite a lot time there to study the parts, so I dug a bit to find the manual Disco:

Bad luck! I showed my mechanic the pic PROFSR uploaded and contrary to what I had understood the broken piece he fixed MacGyver -style is the one circled in red.
Now I’m lost because from the parts catalogue Wojtek pointed me to it seems there is no replacement for that unless one buys a new gear stick assembly …
Will the temporary solution the mech cooked up become a permanent one?

Really!? That would save my day. I thought that clip was the one visible at the rear of the rod but again can’t really tell size and shape from the two pics.
Ok then, Ikm going to place an order right now.
Many thanks for the patience.
