Mine is a real mix of journeys.
However i am coming up to 6000 miles now and I have not reset the trip for mpg for the last 1500 miles.
My avergae cons is now 26.9 MPG.

Glad i'm not the only one concerned by 20 - 22 mpg figures. Only done 800 miles so far, mostly short journeys on country roads, hopefully will improve with more miles. Putting upwards of £60 in the tank makes the eyes water a bit.
Apart from that, what a fantastic vehicle. Never spent so much on a car before but well worth it. Considered getting one of the last TD5's but so glad I waited.

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum 
Glad you're pleased with your Disco 3, and that you managed to find the site. I think that everyone on here loves their Discos, despite the little niggly problems.
The MPG figures seem to improve from running in, modern engines take a while to bed in (especially, it seems, diesels).
Dad's Td5 110 has done just over 12k miles now, and is finally feeling loosened up, so I'd expect the TDV6 to take a while too!
What colour Disco have you got, out of interest?

To answer Martin's question I have gone for Bonatti Grey. The Disco will get quite a lot of off-road/farm use and I felt this was the most practical colour for me. If it was never going off road I would probably have gone for Cairns blue.
To answer Simon's question - yes it is an S, automatic. Apart from the metallic paint and rear tray and seat covers it hasn't got any other extras. Will be more than happy to answer your question re. Settings.

What is the rear tray you ordered ? You mean the load space tray that slides to aid loading ? If so. How does this work with the 3rd row seats ?

The tray is not the sliding one but in LR speak it is a plastic "Loadspace Protector", when the 3rd row of seats are down it slides in on top and protects the carpet from mud etc.

Did you order the load space protector or the mat?
If you ordered the mat take a look at this cheaper alternative http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...4528829256
They often come up on eBay and as it's about a third of the price of the official LR it may be worth a try even if it doesn't last as long

I have the mats all round and they certainly keep the mud, dog hair and kids mess off the carpets.
Only pain is in the rear when you have to roll it up in order to use the third row seats.

This is only a one off test drive of about 45km in Sydney traffic and 120k on freeway (100 & 110 kph limits) plus some good hills. Two adult males no other loads.
Zeroed the fuel gauge at start of test drive. At start of freeway indicated 13.2 lt / 100k (21 mpg)
After the freeway the combined consumption had dropped to 10.5 lt/100km (26.9 mpg) and when back at the dealers it had gone up to 25.7 mpg
The vehicle had about 6600km on the clock so was well run it (actually the various journos had used it as a test vehicle so it may be nearly run out  )

Unfotunately, mine has taken a dive recently. I have not done too much long distance for a couple of weeks, and have done a lot of countryside (hills and winding roads), it has dropped back to 22.
I think it could be down to my driving also, as I have been hustling along a bit recently.

US LR3 HSE with Expedition Rack - 5900 miles @ 13.7 mpg (slightly smaller gallon over here though - much smaller $/gallon though!).
I seem to get better MPG when the tranny is in sport mode which surprises me.

Having now broken through the 10,000 mark, my fuel consumption is averaging at around 28mpg. Not too bad IMHO and barely worse than my previous TD5.
Dealer tells me I'm on course for having the first D3 to require servicing; not sure whether thats such a great honour however!
Incidentally, I was having problems with a woefully innaccurate fuel range read out (i.e. 350 miles showing for a full tank): the required solution? a whole new fuel tank! Incredible and unsurprisingly, on back order at LR (watch this space).

Sounds like you have the same problem Gareth. Apparently the tank is fitted with two sensors, one at each end of its (2m) length. One sensor provides signal to the analogue fuel gauge and is accessible for replacement via an access point on the tank. The second sender (for the range read out) is at the opposite end of the tank where, due to a 'design oversight', a similar 'convenient' access location was omitted. QED, failure of this device requires replacement of the entire tank unit.
I am reliably infomed that this is another of a long list of components and assemblies that are urgently being 'reviewed' after discovering their original design to be somewhat flawed - the 'sticky' rear wiper assembly is another. As for the FBH................we won't go there!
Fortunately (?), replacing the tank takes less than 2 hours, unlike the old Disco which was a far more complex job!
