Hi mate
I did wonder about the box
Ah, didn’t realise it had got that bad, if it’s that bad and seeing ur going to keep it for a while it certainally would improve matters , along with having the extra bonus of the post lift will make life easier
Do u think the wrong oil was put in there and basically screwed it up
At least u can enjoy ur holiday , fill ur glass up some more and worry about it when u get back home

Double check the level of oil in the gearbox , don’t forget needs to be 30-50 degrees and engine running.
But otherwise it does sound like it’s the end of the road for the gearbox.Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi Bodsy
May i ask plse was it a company called smith that done there ATF red as I know @discomadness reported that his was red when he drained his gearbox
Wonder if someone may have filled it with dexron by mistake as I assume if that’s the case will destroy a gearbox ???
Many thks

It doesn’t necessarily need to be Dexron to have a red dye. For example, BG Universal Synthetic ATF 312 has a red color, too, and according to the manufacturer meets or exceeds the specifications for use with D3 (ZF 6HP) gearboxes. Mine has had it for a year and after ~ 20000 km of driving seems to be alright, still. Knock on wood.

I can’t remember, but there are a couple that use red that’s supposed to meet the right spec.
I don’t use red personally as it’s generally so ld ass a spec that covers many specs...
Including not surprisingly dexronIII !!!Bodsys Brake Bible

I guessed as much. Nothing surprises me. As long as it gets me home at the end of the week.

Hiya mate.
Hols going great. Taken a walk down to oxwich bay beach with the kids today. Weather been quite nice.
I didn’t realise that was not a landrover one. I messaged them and they said it doesn’t come with a mechatronic unit or torque converter. I’ll give Mikey a shout.
Looks like a good set up for testing mate. Interested to see how it works with your sprayer. Jarrod

Hi mate
Weather is so much nicer near the beach , et the kids also enjoying it
Just saw the BMW X5 next to the gearbox, indeed at least getting one from DM ur know it will be sound
Thks mate , so can now just plug the tyre inflater onto the shrieder valve , other end onto the low side of the AC connection , can then just fill it up to 1 x bar and bubble test the joints using the sprayer full of soapy water
Pleased as the sprayer has the long lance and trigger so can get into the restricted access areas

Hi mate
No,not yet tried it out, but will of course let u know how it’s goes
Great news with the gesrbox and at least u know where it came from and in good working order
Not sure mate ref the removal of the gearbox, think I’ve seen some how to threads here , will see if I can find for u
Plus suppose it depends how long it would take to remove the body vs replacing gearbox with it on

Hiya mate, yeah Mikey said it’s not going to be removed for a month or so, i’ll Carry on with all the other bits anyway so it gives me a bit of breathing room. No harm no foul. I rushed through the jobs to get the car back on the road for the camping trip so left lots of jobs I didn’t have time for. I’ll get those done while it’s having a sabatical.
Thankyou for the links also mate. Jarrod
