So just had another conversation with garage and they cannot confirm whether the bearing have spun or if the crank has snapped without stripping the engine. Is there any point in me authorising this as it will cost thousands and they said I will still need a new engine either way. Still waiting for the bottom line price from the dealer

Out of interest did you get the Stratstone / evans halshaw gurantee extension when you bought it from them ?

Got 1 year warranty with the car but had so many problems stratstone paid 50% of the year 2 warranty, that ran out at the end of July

So just got the quote for a replacement engine of £16,325 plus any additional items like turbos etc. Car only worth 21,ooo is so may as well scrap it and buy a decent one. this is bonkers !!

Buy an engine from Eurojag and get either Disco Mikey or Woody32 to fit it.  New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I'll give you the £4,675 difference for it New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

Add a turbo at 3.5k plus fitting and the 50 other possible broken bits that may need replacing once work is started and you could put another 5k on no probs. How much is a Broken HSE worth as it stands
I'll give you the £4,675 difference for it

I was being a little facetious...
but a second hand engine fitted by an independent will come in at a lot less than £16k. And if the turbo isn't broken, don't change it.
