D4 crank failure

Hello, my first post so be gentle. My 2011 D4 as suffered crank failure with a humongous repair bill. Anyone in the same boat or have some experience is getting this resolved, thanks

I have googled it and the reading is depressing, was hoping for a mini miracle tbh. Liaising with garage and lr but all very slow

Not very exciting I'm afraid. Other half drove to our local supermarket all fine, on the way home, without warning, the engine sounded like a barrel of spanner so rolling down a hill. Car recovered and taken to stratstone where it remains. Done 62,000 and fully serviced and maintained by stratstone. Just been told 'crank' at the moment. Any help appreciated

Oh dear. You certainly appear to tick all the boxes for some goodwill from LR. Many on here have had recompense to varying degrees for this increasingly common failure.

Have you owned from new?.

I'm sure you have already read the stories, but be prepared to have a battle with customer services, and hopefully your dealer is on side and backing you up?

Lr have offered a contribution but still leaves us with a huge bill. Bought the car in July 14 as an approved vehicle, fully serviced and maintained by main dealer. We have done approx 21,000 in the little over 2 years we owned it. Garage not interested in contributing but did make the request for support to lr. Given the 6 year deadline is not too far away in the process of getting advice from a solicitor.

I don't want to say how much contribution they have offered right now as I don't want to jeopardise my case when the solicitor takes over, but I will say that it leaves me with a bill of approx or at least 9 to 10k which is simply not feasible for me. I don't intend to give up, I feel very strongly that this must be put right. A stressful situation to say the least and the inconvenience of not having a vehicle when you need it is a pain. I appreciate your comments as it gives me hope of getting this wrong put right. I spent a lot of money on a high end vehicle, did everything re servicing and maintenance the correct way, was not expecting it to end so badly.

There was someone on here recently from abroad who was trying to put a list together of people who had exoerienced broken cranks to assist him in taking out a case. I think he was from Taiwan or Singapore? Off the top of my head there seems to be something like 4-6 people posting each year about crank failure but often people who only come on to the forum briefly because of their problem. Wiggs bought one recently as a non runner.
Given the full cost of a new engine is something like 16k fitted its hardly surprising that even a 50% contribution from LR would leave most people's eyes watering Sad
