The only thing I fill is 95E10. We would have 98E5, too, but it’s more expensive. Shell has some stations with 99 (they call it v-power) but I’m not stupid enough to pay extra for it.

Here, it’s been said that “any vehicle after 1991 or 1995” will be fine with 95E10. The fuel lines on the D3 certainly won’t be eaten up or corrode by it.
Edit: looked up what they say of JLR vehicles - officially “will be suitable for all petrol powered Land Rover vehicles manufactured starting 1996” and same for Jaguars from 1992 onwards.
And yes, “E10” is the same as “95E10” I referred to. We’ve had it since 2011. 98E5 will be available, by law, at least until end of 2024 but probably longer.
Edit2: clearly you have not read the whole thread from start, this was mentioned only two years ago 8)

Did you have issues with PCV or did you replace just because? I did the latter when I purchased the car.
I looked at the MAF last weekend but didn’t see a point in messing with it since there were no symptoms and it looked clean.

The California shunt is when the gearbox "cant find a gear" when coming to a stop and restarting. It then finds a gear but its does so with a shunt. I've had it on Volvos and BMWs from the same time period. Software cured the BMW.
pjm thanks you for your explanation. Unfortunately my english is not good enough. What is a shunt? With google translation it doesn‘t make any sense
I had this issue.
Approaching round about or junction... slowing down to almost stopping... try to accelerate away and it feels like something just crashed into the back of the car.
Its a very aggressive sudden acceleration forward. Like if you are being towed by someone with a rope but they dont know how to keep the rope tights... Or like someone recovering you with recovery straps, but they go full power when the rope is not tight...
I updated the firmware, and the issue is gone.
BUT, even better, the car feels like a totally different car. The gearbox is now super, with great gear changes, and the car overall just feels more refined and powerful.Pre-Production

I had this on the first model X5 and a Volvo XC70 of the same time period so its not an LR specific issue.
Its like the gearbox becomes confused or a false netural on a motorbike and then it goes into gear. At that stage all the parameters are way off. i.e road speed, gearbox, revs, etc..... hence the shunt (like being hit from behind on the bumper car at the fair!)

Congratulations Jim!
Or should I say sincere condolences
Best and most expensive car I ever owned
But it‘s worth it!

What firmware did you update and how did you do it? With IID Tool?
In my experience it doesn‘t feel line a shunt. The engine really accelerates to 4000-5000rpm and you need to hit the brakes to stop it! People always think that you hit the gas pedal by accident but I tell you, I didn‘t._,,,_______///________

Not to start a holy war on tires but I think everyone’s got their own favorite
I bought last summer Pirelli Scorpion AT+ in 255/55R19 and have nothing but good things to say about them. Had them on until middle of January in all kinds of conditions, roads and terrain. Swapped to Nokian Hakkapeliitta SUV 9 studded ones for a few months.
Some pictures of the pirellis below:

I agree, I was thinking of going to original rims but I like those, are they Range Rover? Whats the story on the fitment of the front to allow for the larger calipers?Jim

It‘s a personal preference but you can‘t go wrong (=absolutely a must ) with BFG KO2 265/65 R18 incl. full spare squeezed under the boot (deflated). They don‘t even rub lowered to bump stop with IID tool - no modification needed on my 2005 V8.
Some say they are even good for winter. But I‘m old fashioned and wouldn‘t trust anything other than normal winter tires for the Swiss alps. So right now it’s on Pirelli Winter XL 235/65 R18.
