Like most on here, I have modest means. When I die, after the Government and any Care Home has its cut, then the kids may well benefit to a greater or lesser extent than others. It’s not something that particularly bothers me as I teach them to stand on their own two feet.
But how can I preach the ethics of equality to them when the Royal Family is so highlighted and privileged? They aren’t even delivered at a NHS hospital, don’t go to State Schools, don’t get the required exams to enter University, but still go, do a statutory short term commission in the Forces and then at 30 retire from doing anything considered useful, content to tour around, doing some charity work, in knowledge that for a few waves and smiles, their subjects will be oblivious to their faults and let them continue in perpetuity and will keep throwing money at them.
I am sure other countries are amazed at this British institution. I can’t think of one other single country in the world that revers and keeps such a large number of Royals as we do. We are besotted with them.
But should we let them continue in this manner for ever? Shouldn’t we be at least trying to reform them in some way that is less burdom some to the country and ultimately wether they appreciate it or not, kinder to them in the long run?
Let’s face it, none of them has a clue about how their subjects live. What it is to put your parents into a care home, worry about bills, worry about the waiting list for a routine appointment for the Doctors or that much needed hip operation, oh, the list is endless.

All I can say is my daughter had the privilege of riding alongside the Queen as an escort down the Long Walk, my Father bless him who had the most deprived childhood in Windsor during the war would have loved to have seen his Granddaughter do that and would have been at the front of the queue to congratulate the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Sweden, Norway, Denmark come to mind where the royal families are very popular. They’re pretty much content to do the same as in UK. In all three countries the latest adult generation of royals married commoners. In Denmark the crown prince married an Australian girl, I think, in Sweden the crown princess married a guy who operated a gym and in Norway the crown prince married a single mom.
I realized that in the Netherlands the royals are also (and have been) very popular. I think the king is married to a (Argentinian?) commoner, there too. He used to fly for KLM, really, while crown prince/king.

In the Netherlands the present King married the daugther of a suspect of ' contributing to crimes againts humanity' in Argentina....

Delighted to say I missed every single part of today's proceedings.
Was out on the Moors since 9am and just got back recently.
Just need to dodge the highlights now. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

My understanding, having worked a while in NL, is that the house of orange is quite popular and a majority of the population approves of it.
A curious footnote in history - After declaring independence, Finland had plans to introduce a monarchy with a German prince as the king. https://tinyurl.com/y7eygr4a might be of interest.

At what point did the royal family historically purchase millions of acres of land, foreshore and all their residences off someone else?
if you mean me … couldn't be more wrong. absolutely all the best to them , they are going to need loads of luck to survive the crap that will get thrown at them. just not my thing to watch the faff.

I thought that the Royal lands were originally theirs by right of conquest from some ancient time, probably battle of Hastings since that’s where William the conqueror won over the Anglo-Saxons, replaced existing nobility and conquered England..

Freehold land can sometimes effectively become ownerless. When this happens, title to the land may, in certain circumstances, revert to the Crown as the ultimate owner of all the land in England, Wales or Northern Ireland

Yes they do. They also - massively- voted for "Green Left" , as the new party leader has - presumably- such a cute . Mainly young female [ & male gay ?] voters..
That guy didn't finish any school degree at all; he got just a certificate to go to another school.
His speeches are mainly copied from Obama. In Dutch : http://www.dagelijksestandaard.nl/2017/02/...jk-op-los/
And the Prime Minister ofcourse ; he got MORE votes last election, after promising a net increase in income for every worker of net € 1000,- in the previous election [ never happened ].
And he pushed thru the support for the Ukraine membership of the EU while a majority of the population voted against it in a referendum..
People want to be deceived, as masters of deception know. This guy Rutte [PM] is a history teacher and didn't think of the result of the first crimean war,
bringing us on the brink of WW3 with this stupid concept of allowing Ukraine into the EU [ and NATO ]..
As a history teacher he should know why the Netherlands were created. Only to keep the UK, Germany and France from a common 'epicenter'.
How much more do we need to poke 'the bear' before he has to 'gear up' war on the west, which actually started when Poland joined NATO...
When I was young, the 'east block' was 300km from Amsterdam [ Berlin wall]. Now its 3000km away, on the doorstep of Moscow..
No proof has been found of russian dealings with the recent murder of the russian dissident in the UK.
Maybe its the same perpetrator behind this as the ones behind the 'weapons of mass distruction' hoax in Iraq....
American weapon producers don't want peace. Any war will do as long its not in the USA.

SWMBO’s just complaining about just that, except she’s bunging the word “crap” in there liberally.
