I move to Italy in 1 week for new job, i was going to drive there but cant now
I can see the flexible fuel hose that bends tightly with a metal cover over the rubber has split, it is directly behind oil filter on normal car, and caused the problem, i do not think it was pump but the hose above it splitting.

OK thanks all for lots of good info, i am in a real pickle now with timings as i gotta leave this mud island for Italy and i stuck in the mud.
I gonna have to somehow stick my phone to a stick that i can reach down and get a good luck at the pump as i would hope to just connect pipe to the old pump
not sure what else i would need yet but i try get pictures or video now so i can see more clearly

Yes that lexi hose i beleive was the culprit, that part in the middle the small pig tail bit i think rubbed on the engine cover and leaked onto something that was hot enough to vapourise and ignite.
Does this sound feasible or just my imagination?

well there isn't a lot of pressure in that pipe.
and it's not near the hot exhaust
So unless you know it was leaking, I would think it was something else near the back of engine
I guess it's possible

Getting the electrics to work will be the biggest issue

Ok thanks again i will try get closer look now,
It is just that the pig tail part i noticed months ago had worn through the metal and into the rubber but it looked like a coolant hose to me so didnt worry too much.
