Torque converter issue?
Well after trawling through the endless threads about a TC problem, I thought I’d start my own.
My problem is basically I have a sound like castanets when I change gear, only audible with the windows open.
I also get a bit of a drone in top gear at 1500 rpm/40mph.
I also get a wobble from time to time when accelerating up hill, it doesn’t feel like a judder.
It’s been flushed by Bodsy a year ago.
In anticipation of a big bill. Does any one know a good place to take it near Stratford-Upon-Avon/Alcester area?
Thanks in advance

You have checked the prop shaft and centre bearing as uni joints can make those noises.

Yes I only changed it 2 weeks ago. It was my original thought that it was a bad prop. It did make it slightly better but sadly hasn’t cured it.
I did notice quite a bit of play in the transfer box too. Could this be the issue?

Mine has done this for the 5 years or so I have owned it happens about 1500-1600 rpm when you just roll out of the throttle sounds like a jingling bell? Mine has driven faultlessly all the time without any problems also used to get some sort of feedback through the radio like it's playing the sound of the heater fan try turn the blower off when you hear the sound see if it goesplease excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

I can only describe it as a sound like a knackered bearing rattling or a load of small ball bearings rattling in a can. Best description is castanet.

Have you checked the gearbox oil level and transfer case as well. I am still on the prop shaft. Did you check the front one as well

Have you jacked each side up and spun the wheel to see if any stones are trapped between disk and backing plate or any noises.

Globetrotter that’s not a bad shout. I’ve had the gearbox megaflush done by Bodsy and I’ve not seen any leaks but I’ll give it a go. I’ve never checked the front prop. I’ll try it this afternoon.
As for gearbox oil level. Is it a case of dropping the drain plug and going through the refill process?

No, you run the engine, undo the filler plug and add oil till it overflows
