Hi
I wanted to get some engine oil and got myself into a tizzy in halfords with all the different letters on the Castrol magnatec's
I put in a couple litres of Castrol magnatec stop start fully synthetic 5w30 C3?
thats ok for my 2014 XS SDV6 isn't it?

You have a DPF so the oil has to be low sulfur which I think is C1 rated.
Perhaps cross reference on opie oils website...?Visitor from fullfatrr.com

No not in my opinion, why 2 litre? - that’s a lot of oil for a top up. Oil must meet the spec below, if you have a crank snap with that oil in LR will laugh at you

It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Perhaps get an oil and filter change tomorrow for the correct oil ?
As above, 2 litres is a lot to top up. Did you read it correctly? It’s a black art without a dip stick Visitor from fullfatrr.com

As above, 5/30 C1 is the spec you need for an SDV6 with a DPF.
Don't stress over it, just make sure the correct oil is put in at the service.2011 MY D4 HSE

LR state C3 can be used if C1 is not available but is not recommended for general use and must be changed at <6K miles.
In a nutshell any oil is better than none, it also makes me wonder when the oil was last changed as I have never had to top up with more than 1/2 a litre between services. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
Unfortunately, C1 oil is usually on the same shelf as rocking horse droppings..

Just for information Halford now selling C1 oil. Specifically for Jaguar Land Rover.
Unfortunately only in 2 litre or 4 litre size.
£18 for 2 litre.

Saved this thread for if/when I need to add oil.
Question - would the Halfords oil be as good as Castrol/Shell brands?
(no doubt it'll come from a decent branded oil company- ?)I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

I would just buy it from Advanced Factors there 5 litres of C1 is only £18 and 1 litre top up is less than a fiver!
Plus their a forum sponsor👍
I think Halfords are charging extra just because it says LR on the bottle now!

Just a note for anyone using Halfords, and apologies if you know, but AA members get 10% discount. You just have to get the voucher through the app and take it in, it can be printed or just as a screen shot. I have heard some unscrupulous people have been giving screen shots to their friends and family, not that I condone such actions!Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey
