Don't panic, ecu's can be flashed even if an upload fails, there are parts of the memory that are ROM (read only) simply do a hard reset, make sure your battery is fully charged(the process will be aborted if you do not have sufficient power in the battery), do not use an additional battery charger unless it is a Ctek of sufficient capacity and make sure you press the + switch on the cruise control after the continue to upload message appears, the upload should not take more than two minutes, if it does press the + switch again, you should see "upload started". Do not touch anything after it starts uploading.
Read and study my previous post regarding the user manual update and follow the instructions exactly, you will be up and running in 15 mins.
Hope this helps, keep us posted. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Unfortunately had a day of frustration.
GAP have provided an excellent service, and I've had Christian sending me various firmware updates throughout the day and trying all sorts of methods.
From reading the error codes, it seems my BCM is refusing to talk (which is the mood SWMBO is in at the moment).
They've told me I'm the 6th person to report the issue, but the first with the BT module.
Just tried the latest firmware he's sent and it got further than before (taking twice as long) but it still errors at the end.
Fingers crossed it's progress...

Well after a bit of an ordeal, I now have a recovered BCM.
Basically the BCM activates some of its output at the moment the re-flash fail, what this means is that either the front lights or tailgate motors ran for some seconds.
It's seems to be random. It happened a couple of times, sometimes it's some of the lights, sometimes it's the rear hatch motor.
What this did when the flash was failing, meant that there wasn't sufficient current going through the BCM.
The Guys at GAP found a TB from LR NA for a failed BCM. By removing fuses 15 and 16 in the engine bay and re-inserting fuse 15 meant I could re-flash the BCM OK.
Full credit to the guys from GAP, although it took 6 days of many hours of them testing different firmware trying to wake up my BCM.
On the plus side, it means they have now revised how they are going to update the BCM going forward so hopefully no one else should have the same issues as me.
That's the problem with these things, we are all basically beta testing the devices since there could be something you run into that no-one else has. But the next person to run into it, has an easy fix..
Gotta give thanks to the guys at GAP, they are definitely showing how to do customer service the right way.

Hello,
A great thread from a few years back. I am experiencing similar problems after a recent attempt to reflash the BCM. 1st attempt failed, resulting in dead landy. GAP have been really helpful, but we are hit a problem, 1.8% into the reflash it asks to toggle the ecu fuse
I tried fusible links 15 & 16 as recommended in the Gap manual but to no avail. Although research shows these fuses are lights related only, not ecu, unless they have some random affect in the background.
Looking at the drivers manual, Haynes and online I can't find any references to "ecu" specific fuses. Has anyone here come across this and/or any idea which fuses need toggling.
And I can only presume toggling means removing then reinserting.
As background it's a 2008 D3 2.7tdi, that prior to this has been behaving beautifully.
Many thanks
Welcome any advice
Rich

Just to clarify, the fuses (15/16) that need to be momentarily removed are the large green 40amp fuses (closest towards headlight) in the engine fuse box not the mini fuses.
This is the trouble with having the a powerful tool, although it says updates available, if the car is running fine then leave well alone. If it's not broke dont fix it...
