Why you say that? Where do I locate a new bolt and this chemical metal please?
Thanks for the help.

If you have some thread left bolt it up very gently with some thread lock on there or better still some Loktite bearing fit liquid and the keep the cups on the end of the gas struts well lubricated.
What do you mean thread lock please? And Loktite bearing fit liquid?

Helecoil it you can get a kit drill it out with a slightly larger drill bit re thread it with supplied tap then you can screw the new thread in looking at that it looks like 8mm.

Why not try screwing it back in, it may just have unwound
Can you retap the hole to a larger diameter and fit a larger bolt Or you could get someone to weld the bolt in for you. Once it's it there's no need for it be removed.
The arm then clips over the bolt

and use locktite. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

What I'm confused with is people saying the bolt falling in the door pillar BUT how can it do that as looking at mine the bolt and ball thing is wider then the hole in the pillar? Is there another piece missing?
Can I not try put this bolt back in and see if its sturdy enough? And maybe add some glue like has been mentioned on here, chemical metal etc though not sure what I'd need or where to get it from?
There's a nut inside the door pillar (pictured in your top pic) that is a captive nut/bolt. This is what you screw the bolt with the nipple on the end of into. If the captive nut in the pillar is sheered off you have to re weld another one or as someone suggested earlier try going up through the tail light to fit another nut. It looks like your captive nut is still attached so you either need to retap the thread in the pillar hole or gingerly screw a new nipple bolt into it like I did.

Thanks ok, so what how do I retap it or screw a new nipple (where would I source one from) in as surely the only thing I can screw in is the original bolt that came out of it?
Looking at the pics which is best option to try first, ie if I try one and it fails I still have 2nd option.

Thanks, sorry to be really dumb but I see part number on that site but how can I check its one I need against the bolt I have in my pic? I'm not great with cars lol.
Take the Disco to any dealer and show them the part (bolt with nipple on for boot strut) ask them to order the part.
Probably easier if you ask a local body shop to help you

ok I now have a new bolt and some Loctite extra strong super glue, question is which do I screw in first the bolt to the door pillar with glue too THEN attach the ball end to the strut itself?

Chances are you will never need to remove the bolt so first, clean it thoroughly so there is no grease or oil residue on it, do the same with the captive nut in the door frame (use an ear bud) then try a dry fit, don't overtighten and providing enough thread remaining, remove the bolt and smother the threads in the super glue and quickly nip it back up, not too tight.
