Just seen the strut section itself from where the ball goes into it is cracked so need a new one, Landrover quoted £35 for the part and £20 fitting for an hours work.

When putting the bolt back in the pillar which way does it turn, clockwise or anti clockwise to screw in?

Nearly all fixings are R/H thread and this is one of them . just like a threaded light bulb, so clockwise to screw it in.

Brad you seem to be posting the same posts in two different threads ...is there something you want merged ?

The problem is you will risk two conversations on the same subject ...maybe best to post a link to this thread in the other strut thread for those interested Thumbs Up

EDIT Brad I've merged all the duplicate posts into this thread and put a link in the strut thread so that peeps can assist \ follow your story Thumbs Up

Hi Brad

I've had another look at your original photo and to be honest, you don't have much meat left to tap so unless you can get someone to weld up the hole and re drill and tap, I still think your best option is to clean everything really carefully, lather supeglue over the bolt and hole and hand tighten the new bolt back in. Providing the surfaces are clean, the glue will be almost unmoveable.

As I said earlier, you will never need to undo it so it really doesn't matter if the glue makes it permanent.

Try that first and if that doesn't work, you will probably need to get someone to weld up the original hole, then re-drill and tap a thread into the new hole.

You may get away with running a tap.

Go to Halford or somewhere similar with the bolt and explain that you need to tap the hole.

A tap kit is cheap, probably under £20 and just run the tap in the hole to re-make the thread, then glue the bolt in place.
