The blowing out would be expected at higher speeds due to air flow, it was probably a stone or some other object. Air flowing over the top at higher speed than underneath causes a vacuum effect below the glass pulling it up.

My insurance class sunroof glass as normal body glass with standard excess etc.

I think Discostu had a similar thread re insurance. If it falls back to insurance, then I'm quite lucky that LRI specifically cover sunroof's under their glass section ....so it will be a £60 excess and not affect NCD.

Hmmm - it might be a result in the short term for DG, which is great. But I'm very suspicious at them not quibbling, they must be prior experience for them to turn around so quick and say warranty Confused

It's not something that is widely known if it is, and in reality any big issues with D3's is always known on here even before most dealers know a lot of people draw confidence on that.

So I'm happy mine wont explode other than being struck by a suitable object, just like can happen to a windscreen.

Well I've made some enquiries with peeps in the know and am informed that there was a small batch of pre-2007 sunroofs with similar incidents but they were resolved with the manufacturer. Overall, I can't think of an occassion reported on here either. I suspect that GSTD were doing a good job of keeping me happy and not wanting to argue the toss TBH. Smile

I've seen a thread similar to this on another forum, it also involved a pano roof (on a BMW X5).

Take a look at the wikipedia article, its goes some way to explain what may have happened:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_glass_breakage

Also, if your worried about it happening again, you could get the glass tinted (with a very light tint) - it wont prevent it happening again, but the tint film will keep all the glass together and hopefully out of the car!
