HORRIFIC ACCIDENT WITH A D3 G4 NO#1 IN AFRICA

I would just like to show what happened on a main high way passing our little village yesterday 23 DEC.

A family of 4 were travelling in a D3 on holiday when an Audi A4 at excessive high speed veered into their lane and struck them head on.Time 04h30, driver of the Audi coming from a party.
The driver of the Audi?
Vital organs were removed by paramedics in the engine bay and on the roof rack of the D3.

Look at the D3 cabin or interior, only the foot well were pushed back on the passenger side.
The mother had a badly shattered leg, husband broken arm and young daughters suffered minor injuries. The family are still in local hospital near us.

The impact was so severe that the D3'S winch and bull bar were stuck in the middle of the Audi , at the gear levers position

truly sobering....
That is one of the reasons I have a Land Rover......a guy I know was in a head-on with a bus on a rural road...he sustained bad head injuries, but the police and hospital staff all told him later if he had not been in a LR (Disco 2)it is unlikely he would have survived

What a terrible way to begin a holiday ! The chap in the Audi musta fallen asleep. A tragedy for all

I heard yesterday that something like 500 people have already died on the SA roads this december.

I am staying at home where it's relatively safe

Horrific? yes.
Reassuring? Hell yes! No other car I would want to be in and this is one of the reasons. Badly shattered leg and a broken arm. Hospital for a while with the leg, but kIds safe and all still alive. Almost ANY other vehicle and this would be a story of 5 dead and not just 1.

Thanks for reminding us of this. Thumbs Up
Feel sorry for the dead guys family, but I'm driving the disco.....

I have to agree Bodsy....
Clarkson also made the comment when asked why he drove large 4x4 family cars......."in an accident between 2 cars,I want my family in the big, heavy, safe one"...it may not be a sentiment we all like saying out loud, but its one we all quietly share....

Agreed truly shocking but as mentioned reassuring that the D3 stands up to that kind of impact. Having two young kids in the back of mine the whole time makes me feel happier.

That must have been some impact speed Shocked

The anti's used to make much argument in their quest to rid the world of 4x4's that collisions were to the detriment of the occupants of the other vehicle involved ....they never really took into account that deaths and injuries might be multiplied all-round if you replaced the 4x4 with a 'normal' vehicle in each instance.

A humbling example of why we are quietly thankful to drive one of the safest vehicles on the planet Neutral

In this pic , I think shows the severity of the impact.

If you see where the rubber mat lies, the warn winch and plate were stuck in there ,the dashboard is squashed beneath it,
The seat is the drivers seat and you can see the steering wheel lying loose broken off wedged into the drivers seat, the steering wheel shaft is the yellow part on the seat.

Strangely the air bag in the steering wheel of the Audi didn't deploy.

I cannot describe the damage, it looks like a freight train collided with this car.
Standing by this wrecks, makes you feel quesy ,believe me

Good grief, that's horrendous, truly. The family in the D3 will have a miserable Christmas but will be glad they were in that vehicle for sure.
