Fuel tank change
I am just about to change my fuel tank (Disco Duncs old one) in an attempt to cure my wandering fuel gauge. I have already checked the plugs in the front right wheel arch which are ok.
Is it a straight forward job to remove the tank, 5 or 6 bolts and a few connections, or is there anything else to watch out for?
Once the replacement is in, I will need to bleed the system, where and how do I do this on a D3? I think I will also need someone (Flack ) to prime the FBH as well?Joined the BMWX5 45e group

First step would be siphone out all the fuel that Dunc left in the tank.
It's a fairly straight forward job with the obvious things to remove. I usually do mine with both drivers side wheels on drive up ramps. This gives just enough room to slide it out and is just the right height to allow it to rest on the floor without overly straining pipes etc. things to look out for are pipes clipped in a certain order at the outer front and inner rear of tank. Might be worth a quick pic to get them back into the correct order. The tank itself has a roll over protection device fitted on the filler so very little should come out when you drop it down. You will still be looking to empty as low as pos for the manual handling point of view. To prime just cycle the ignition a couple of times and I have never blead the fbh. Hope this helps. Just take your time. Nice sat afternoon job.

Well just for once, this turned out to be a nice simple straight forward job. I started by putting it in super extended height and supporting drivers side with axle stands. It is literally held on by 6 bolts, undoe them and the filler pipe then you can lower it down, just needing to unclip the emergency handbrake release and pipes to allow it all the way to the ground. From there release pipes and electrics from the back end and that allows it to slide out for even easier access to pipes from the front. you can then remove the guard plate, two bolts.
Fitting is a simple reversal of removal, I did it single handed with a trolley jack, it would be easier with a second person but it is doable on your own.
The only hard bit is daring your remaining fuel out the old tank, bit I did get most I think.
Then the final test, go and fill up, it does seem to be working correctly now, so many thanks to Duncan for the tank and to Brian for transporting it.
Anyone need a tank, it does have a dodgy sender unit though Joined the BMWX5 45e group
