I sold two cars to get my LR3.
One was a very much loved 94 Mitsubishi Montero that was quite the billy goat, fun to drive, and had great MPG (manual 5spd V-6). But after 150,000 miles it was starting to wear out.
The other car was my daily driver, a 98 Volvo V70. I used both cars extensivly in pursuit of my habits. The Montero would get me to all the local mountains where I would fly RC Sailplanes. The Volvo was a comfortable daily driver for work and longer trips, around 20,000 miles a year.
I searched long and hard for one vehicle that could do it all. Drive comfortably for a daily driver, fit my large 6'-7" body, go off road, and have a long enough trunk area for my gliders (63" min).
The Range Rover Sport and the LR3 both fit the bill marvelously. My preference really is for the Sport, but it was nearly $20,000 more than my LR3
After 6,000 miles in a short amount of time, I'm quite happy with the purchase. I've done things in it that I only dreamed about before, and let's not discount the sense of community and place that Land Rovers have!

I sold my Discovery II GS 7-seat (my third Land Rover). Had lots of extras, was a vey nice car (except for the annoying lean to the right it developed). Broke down on the M1 1 week after I got it (bkn. fuel pick up pipe in diesel tank), but totally reliable after that! It was better on fuel than my D3, though that was the only thing that was better!! It also got me a £1000 loyalty bonus, swapping from a Discovery to a Discovery 3.

Traded in
A BMW 320d Touring. Nice little car a toy compared to the D3. Had a 1994 V8 in New York that we loved. Starter motor was the only thing that caused us grief.06 Bonatti Grey HSE, Ebony Interior with Privacy Glass & Rubbing Strips.

Well having had a disappointing quote for my soul from the devil, decided to PX my 3.5 year old E39 530d. You know the one - the one that the books describe as one of the best cars ever made. Well my £42k cared for and over spec'd car was now only worth about £12.5K, which kinda hurt!
So I PX'd the 3.2 DSG Audi TT to gain the funds required. Well, it had 4 wheel drive!
So from driving the TT, my Wife now has the BMW. That's not gone down that well either.

My previous car was a 99 Volkswagen T4 Caravelle, a "VW bus", which had done about 310,000 kms. I was very happy with it and it was very reliable until about the last 50,000 kms, when more started going wrong.

I traded my 2003 Disco 2 GS (59,000 miles) for my D3 and no money changed hands
Unfortunately Mrs Tucker only let me have the 110 when I was planning to 'down-size' the Disco and use the 110 for load-lugging instead, Ooops

Lease expired on BMW Z4, and I also traded in my '97 Disco ES TDi 7 seater (which blew up between signing the deal and getting the new car, so they reduced the trade-in value to £2500 )2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.
