I have just had the cruise control switches fitted at Land Ranger, Middlewich, Cheshire. The switch for the steering wheel was £47. They have not been able to activate the car yet as they siad they had a problem with their Autologic computer. I've got to go back in the next couple of days when they have had advice from Autologics help desk.
I should then get charged about an hours labour for fitting etc. Fingers crossed.

I have had the cruise control enabled this morning at Land Ranger. It took about five minutes and it works great.
Having been told by a Land Rover dealers that it was not possible to fit cruise control to the Dicovery 3 as the electronics are too complicated, I am really pleased.
I think the dealers are missing a trick as anyone who wants cruise, would i'm sure, be willing to pay a reasonable amount to have it retro fitted. At about £47 for the switch plus maybe an hours labour to fit the switch and configure the car, there must be money in it for them. Anyway, its their loss!!
I'm driving to Southport on Thursday, so will give it a good test.
Anyone in South / mid Cheshire who wants it done, I'd recommend Land Ranger at Middlewich, as they now know how to do it.

Hi All
Just wanted to say that since my original post, I got my local dealer in Bristol to activate cruise and stereo. They fitted a new leather wheel (bought on ebay) and activated both for me for £50. It all works brilliantly and makes all the difference to be holding a decent leather wheel and to give the old right foot a rest on the motorway. Call Darren in Service Dept http://www.guysalmon.bristol.landrover.co.uk/
Hope this helps!

That's an interesting development as Main stealers would not normally do it to a D3 whose spec did not have it when built at the factory LR would not normally release the codes to the stealer to allow access to the D3 puter.

Good afternoon guys i have just managed to get the radio and cruise buttons sorted for my steering wheel and was wondering if there is any one around Salisbury area that would be able to help enable the cruise control once i have fitted the switches. Looking on here looks like Steve Norman is close to m but cant seem to find him on here, can anyone help or Steve if your still an active member any chance you could help. Also any idea where to get hold of one of those weird tools to remove steering wheel?
Thanks in advance
Mark

Yes cruise control works on manual transmissions too.
It is just a bit more work to vary the speed as you might need to change gear to comfortably maintain the new desired speed and that means pressing the clutch which means cruise control turns off and you have to turn it back on again. Not speaking from experience here as I still don't have mine activated, but from what I read in the manual. Dennis

yes, I've turned into my manual D3 and works perfectly, and because of the huge torque of the drive ... you do not need a lot of work with the gear ... works perfect ... and I can talk because I carry with the set, more than 3 years and more than 100000 km .. and no problem at all
regards lost in translation!

That's great! Just picked up my disco earlier today. 322 miles and an actual 33.2 mpg that's at 75 average on way home and 30 mins gridlocked traffic. I love cruise control so that'll be a priority!

Will this work on my 2008 GS? As I thought I could do other simple plug and play mods (front Fogs/PDC) but loom seems to be different? Basically trying to get it a bit closer to an HSE spec disco.

Yes it will work. Just fit the steering controls.
Radio controls will work immediately
Cruise control will require activation via IID Tool/Faultmate
